The North Wales Coast line keeps its mechanical signal boxes for the time being. Crewe North Junction signal box remains in position as part of the Crewe Heritage Centre following the resignalling of Crewe in 1985. At Chester resignalling took place in 1984. On the North Wales Coast line proper Chester has recently taken over from Sandycroft.
